Classic French Press Coffee Recipe

There's something incredibly satisfying about brewing coffee with a French Press. This classic method allows for full immersion brewing, which means the coffee grounds are fully saturated with water. This results in a robust and full-flavoured cup of coffee. In this guide, we'll walk you through the steps to make the perfect French Press coffee.

What You'll Need

  • A French Press
  • Freshly roasted coffee beans from I Brew It
  • A coffee grinder
  • Hot water
  • A timer
  • A spoon

Step 1: Measure Your Coffee

Start by measuring your coffee. The perfect ratio of coffee to water for French Press is 1:15. That means for every 1 gram of coffee, you'll need 15 grams of water. For a standard 34-ounce French Press, you'll need about 60 grams of coffee.

Step 2: Grind Your Coffee

Grind your coffee beans to a coarse grind. The grounds should be about the same size as sea salt. If the grind is too fine, it can slip through the filter and make your coffee muddy and over-extracted.

Step 3: Add Coffee to Your French Press

Add your ground coffee to the French Press. Make sure the coffee bed is level so that water saturates the grounds evenly.

Step 4: Add Water

Now it's time to add your hot water. The water should be about 200 degrees Fahrenheit, which is just below boiling. Pour the water evenly over the coffee, making sure all the grounds are saturated.

Step 5: Stir and Brew

Give the coffee a gentle stir with a spoon to ensure all the grounds are wet. Then, place the lid on your French Press with the plunger pulled all the way up. Let the coffee brew for 4 minutes.

Step 6: Press and Pour

After 4 minutes, slowly press the plunger down. Pour the coffee immediately to prevent it from becoming bitter. Enjoy your perfect cup of French Press coffee!

Mastering the art of French Press brewing can elevate your morning coffee ritual. With a little practice, you'll be brewing coffee that rivals your favourite coffee shop. Happy brewing!
