When the weather heats up, there's nothing quite like a refreshing cold brew coffee. Cold brew is coffee brewed with cold water over a long period, usually 12 to 24 hours. The result is a smooth, sweet, and icy cold coffee that's perfect for hot summer days. In this guide, we'll show you how to make cold brew coffee with a French Press.

What You'll Need

  • A French Press
  • Freshly roasted coffee beans from I Brew It
  • A coffee grinder
  • Cold water
  • A refrigerator

Step 1: Measure and Grind Your Coffee

Start by measuring your coffee. For cold brew, you'll want to use a 1:5 coffee to water ratio. That means for every 1 gram of coffee, you'll need 5 grams of water. For a standard 34-ounce French Press, you'll need about 140 grams of coffee. Grind your coffee beans to a coarse grind, similar to sea salt.

Step 2: Combine Coffee and Water

Add your ground coffee to the French Press, then pour in your cold water. Make sure all the coffee grounds are fully submerged in the water.

Step 3: Stir and Steep

Give the mixture a gentle stir to ensure all the grounds are wet. Then, place the lid on your French Press with the plunger pulled all the way up. Place the French Press in your refrigerator and let the coffee steep for at least 12 hours. The longer you let it steep, the stronger and more concentrated your cold brew will be.

Step 4: Press and Strain

After the coffee has steeped, slowly press the plunger down. Pour the coffee through a coffee filter or fine mesh sieve to remove any remaining coffee grounds. Your cold brew coffee is now ready to enjoy!

Step 5: Serve and Enjoy

Serve your cold brew coffee over ice. You can drink it straight, or add milk or sweetener to taste. Cold brew coffee is also great for making iced coffee drinks like iced lattes or iced mochas.

With this easy cold brew coffee recipe, you can enjoy a refreshing and delicious coffee drink any time you like. Cheers to great coffee, no matter the weather!
